It seems like just yesterday that Red Dead Redemption 2 made its grand reentrance on PS Plus, challenging gamers everywhere to tackle its expansive open-world Western once and for all. But, alas, it’s about to vanish from the PlayStation subscription lineup again this October, accompanied by a slew of other intriguing titles.
Recently, the "Last Chance" section on the PSN store for PS5 and PS4 got an update, giving us a sneak peek into the games bidding farewell to the PS Plus Extra library by month’s end. Besides Red Dead Redemption 2, which we welcomed back only in May, the delightful Kingdom Hearts will also say its goodbye. That stings a little personally, as my kids and I just started diving into the first game over the weekend. Here is the full list of 16 games on their way out in October:
- Red Dead Redemption 2 (PS4)
- Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas – The Definitive Edition (PS4 | PS5)
- Teardown (PS5)
- Chorus (PS4 | PS5)
- Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen (PS4)
- What Remains of Edith Finch (PS4 | PS5)
- Overcooked! 2 (PS4)
- Superliminal (PS4 | PS5)
- Blasphemous (PS4)
- Moving Out (PS4)
- Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 + 2.5 ReMIX (PS4)
- Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue (PS4)
- Kingdom Hearts III (PS4)
- Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory (PS4)
- Mobile Suit Gundam Extreme Vs. Maxiboost On (PS4)
- Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising (PS4 | PS5)
- The Sims 4 City Living [DLC]
The removal of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is another head-turner. Meanwhile, Blasphemous and What Remains of Edith Finch are top-notch experiences well worth the playtime. And if you haven’t tried it yet, Teardown is a delightful voxel-based destruction sim. So, Red Dead Redemption 2’s current stint will only have lasted half a year, while the departure of the beloved Kingdom Hearts series signifies another departure wave of Square Enix RPGs from PS Plus.
Gamers have become quite savvy in predicting PS Plus departures, often using the typical six, 12, and 18-month cycles that many companies appear to work within. With those timeframes in mind, fans had been anticipating the potential exits of Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart and Humanity. As it turns out, those two aren’t going anywhere just yet. Consider this a friendly six-month notice: if they’re on your playlist, now’s the time to play.
