If you’re tired of squinting at tiny screens on your handheld gaming devices, Tencent might have just the treat for you. According to Videocardz, Tencent is stepping into the portable gaming arena with their new device called the Sunday Dragon 3D One. It’s marketed as a handheld but feels more like a portable console, showcasing an impressive 11-inch display. That’s right, 11 inches—just imagine trying to hold that comfortably!
Under the hood, the 3D One is powered by an Intel Lunar Lake CPU, specifically the Core Ultra 7 258V. It combines four P-Cores (Lion Cove) and four E-Cores (Skymont) with an Arc 140V integrated GPU featuring eight Xe2 cores. We’ve taken these new Lunar Lake processors for a spin, and they’re neck and neck with AMD’s Strix Point (Ryzen AI 300 APUs) when it comes to gaming prowess. Memory-wise, this beast packs 32GB of LPDDR5X-8533 RAM. The catch? It’s soldered onto the CPU die, so no upgrades here. However, the device includes a “high-speed” 1TB SSD, which does offer some room for upgrades if you need more space or faster speeds.
If this gadget manages to launch this year, it might just beat MSI’s Claw 8 AI+ to the punch, as MSI’s device isn’t expecting a debut until early 2025. But here’s the kicker: the 3D One is still a prototype at this stage, so don’t get too eager just yet. Aiming for versatility, this device boasts a compelling 11-inch 2560×1440 display with a smooth 120Hz refresh rate, which might just let it double as a makeshift mini laptop. In comparison, GPD’s upcoming Pocket 4 mini laptops are slightly behind with displays maxing out at 8.8 inches. Tencent is packing their device with cutting-edge real-time eye-tracking technology for a glasses-free 3D experience. They’ve even lined up some optimized games like Path of Exile, Blade & Soul, and Arena Breakout: Infinite to showcase this tech.
Turning to the hardware, the built-in controllers are equipped with Hall Effect joysticks, linear triggers, and a couple of customizable buttons on the back. They’re detachable too, giving you the freedom to swap them with third-party options if you find something more to your taste—just check they fit this unconventional size. Power-wise, it supports 100W fast-charging, though we’re left guessing about the battery capacity.
Admittedly, the 3D One’s design is a bit out there. Handhelds are supposed to be just that—something you can hold comfortably, right? Still, those small screens can sometimes fall short in fully showcasing a game’s depth and beauty. While still under development and labeled as a prototype, the 3D One might not be readily available everywhere, which could make it more of a niche find for now.
