Meta has teamed up with Lightstorm Vision, the 3D film studio helmed by James Cameron, to craft immersive content that spans live events, feature films, and TV series. According to a recent blog post by Meta, the Quest platform will exclusively support Lightstorm Vision’s mixed reality (MR) hardware endeavors.
The scope of this partnership extends into creating original stereoscopic content, as well as empowering creators to enhance their output with cutting-edge tools and AI enhancements. This collaboration aims to push the boundaries of high-quality stereoscopic media production.
The multi-year deal came together following a demonstration of Meta’s latest hardware by Andrew Bosworth, the company’s CTO and head of Reality Labs, to none other than James Cameron himself.
Having witnessed the potential of Meta’s technology, Cameron expressed his excitement, "Its transformative power for content creators worldwide is astonishing. We are at a pivotal moment in history, and by partnering with Meta, we can ensure that everyone has the means to create and enjoy breathtaking new media experiences."
James Cameron, celebrated for his directorial and writing prowess on films like The Terminator, Aliens, Titanic, and the Avatar series, has long been an advocate of 3D technology. His development of the Fusion Camera System revolutionized 3D filmmaking, contributing to seminal works such as Avatar, Tron: Legacy, and Life of Pi.
With a track record of supporting groundbreaking cinematic technology, Cameron’s collaboration with Meta promises to shape the way we create and consume media, setting the stage for a future rich with innovative storytelling mediums.
