Valve isn’t rolling out a completely new Steam Deck right away, but they’re jazzing things up a bit with a fresh release on the horizon. Say hello to the Steam Deck OLED: Limited Edition White. This sleek, white version will carry the same features as the existing 1TB model, but it will set you back an extra $30, bringing the price to $679. Mark your calendars; it’s hitting the shelves next Monday, November 18.
Alongside its chic white and gray color scheme, this Limited Edition includes a white carrying case and a microfiber cleaning cloth—nice touches for keeping your new tech pristine.
Valve is no stranger to playing with colors. Remember the translucent smoky shell version? It was a hit, selling out quickly despite its tendency for minor cosmetic cracks. This time, the white version will be available in all regions where the Steam Deck is sold. That’s everywhere from the US, Canada, and the UK, to Europe, Australia, and parts of Asia through their partner, Komodo. Valve assures that stock will be fairly distributed across these regions.
To curb scalpers, Valve’s setting some ground rules: one white Deck per account and your Steam account must have at least one prior purchase by November 2024.
In their statement to the press, Valve mentioned that this second limited edition OLED model will provide valuable insights into what colors might excite gamers in future releases. “We’re curious to see what the response is,” Valve noted, hinting at future color variants.
If you’re set on the white sheen but can’t get your hands on this particular variant, don’t worry. Companies like Jsaux and dbrand have you covered with alternate backplates or skins. However, if you’re a purist and want it straight from Valve, it’s a limited-time offer until stocks run out.
Peeking at the future, Valve suggested that there’s more on the horizon beyond just new colors and software tweaks, hinting at “ongoing work towards the future of Steam Deck and other hardware plans.”
Looking at the white model gives me a nostalgic mix of Wii U vibes spiced with a dash of iPod elegance. It’s intriguing to see if this new color option will entice existing owners to splurge on another device.
