At the CES 2025 event, NVIDIA made an exciting announcement: they’re expanding GeForce NOW’s cloud gaming capabilities to a range of new devices, including the Apple Vision Pro, Meta Quest 3 and 3S, and Pico headsets.
While this move doesn’t mean virtual reality gamers will be accessing VR-native games through the cloud just yet, it does open up a whole new world of standard gaming across diverse platforms like Windows, Mac, Android, iOS, and handheld devices. Basically, it broadens the scope for those who enjoy their gaming on various devices.
For users with Vision Pro, Quest 3/S, and Pico headsets, streaming games through GeForce NOW will soon be accessible via browsers thanks to the version 2.0.70 update planned for release later this month. NVIDIA is promising users “all the bells and whistles” of its advanced features, such as ray tracing and NVIDIA DLSS, ensuring a rich gaming experience on a massive virtual screen. Gamepad-compatible titles will also be included, enhancing the overall gaming experience.
Moreover, NVIDIA’s cloud gaming service offers a mixed-tier access model: there’s a free option with limited access and several other tiers, including daily passes and monthly subscriptions, which provide higher-quality gameplay. With a library boasting over 2,000 titles, there’s certainly plenty to explore.
NVIDIA isn’t the first to bring cloud gaming to standalone VR devices, however. Previously, in 2022, Pluto VR offered a service for Quest users called PlutoSphere. Unfortunately, it was short-lived, as Meta began cracking down on unauthorized streaming services by early 2024.
On a more positive note, Microsoft got the go-ahead to introduce Xbox Cloud Gaming and its Game Pass library to Quest users in late 2023, making it a thrilling time for gamers exploring cloud gaming on VR platforms.
