Gaijin Entertainment, well-known for the popular War Thunder game released in 2013, is gearing up to take the gaming scene by storm once again with Aces of Thunder, their next big foray into aerial VR combat. Expected to make its debut on PSVR 2 and PC VR headsets, it’s set to launch sometime this year.
Originally announced in 2023, Aces of Thunder was initially slated for a Q4 2024 release. The game is highly anticipated, as it’s set to showcase a dazzling lineup of iconic World War aircraft, all meticulously recreated for SteamVR and PSVR 2.
Fans have already caught a glimpse of a variety of planes from the WWII era, but Gaijin is raising the stakes by including aircraft from WWI as well.
Picture yourself in the virtual cockpit of legendary fighters such as the Fokker Dr.I—the very plane the notorious Red Baron flew—or the SPAD S.XIII, favored by René Fonck, an ace celebrated for his remarkable record among the Allies. These planes will feature meticulously detailed cockpits, weaponry that mirrors history, and flight models designed for authenticity, promising players an unmatched, immersive experience.
In addition to WWI aircraft, the game will showcase an impressive collection of WWII planes. These include the American P-51 Mustang and P-63 Kingcobra fighters, the German Bf 109 and Fw 190, the Soviet IL-2 attack aircraft, Britain’s iconic Spitfire, and the Japanese A6M3 Zero, ensuring a rich and varied playground for aviation enthusiasts.
While Gaijin hasn’t pinned down an exact release date just yet, they did mention to Road to VR that they’re aiming for a 2025 launch. Until then, you can add Aces of Thunder to your wishlist on both Steam and the PlayStation Store for PSVR 2.
Pricing remains under wraps, but we’re staying alert for any updates regarding Aces of Thunder, eagerly anticipating what promises to be a thrilling venture above the clouds.
