EA and Maxis have cooked up something special for all you retro Sims enthusiasts out there. In celebration of The Sims franchise turning 25, they’ve decided to bring back two classics—the original Sims games that started it all. Yes, you heard right! Those rumored re-releases of the first two Sims games are happening, and they’re officially on sale as of today.
Rumblings had suggested that EA planned to roll these out digitally for PC by the end of January, and they managed to sneak it in just in time, launching on January 31—a Friday no less. Talk about cutting it close!
These re-releases, available on PC through the EA app, Epic Games Store, and Steam, are bundled under the names The Sims: Legacy Collection and The Sims 2: Legacy Collection. If you prefer to grab both, there’s a Sims 25th Birthday Bundle available that lets you enjoy the nostalgia-packed duo together.
EA’s announcement was brimming with excitement. They expressed, “To celebrate our legacy and honor the incredible fans who have journeyed with us, we’re re-releasing two beloved titles. Experience once more the iconic neighborhoods and unforgettable characters, like the pesky burglar, the whimsical genie, and Sunny the Tragic Clown, that welcomed so many of you to our community.” It’s time to dive back into the magic of these pioneering games.
Let’s talk numbers—pricing-wise, the complete bundle will set you back $39.99. If you’re opting for just The Sims: Legacy Collection, it’s $19.99, while The Sims 2: Legacy Collection is priced at $29.99. As for what you’re getting, most of the original expansion packs are included, though The Sims 2’s IKEA Home Stuff pack is, unfortunately, missing from the lineup.
Though that’s a bit of a bummer, you still get a few holiday packs and the H&M Fashion Stuff pack with The Sims 2, ensuring your taste for corporate collaborations is well catered to. Plus, The Sims 4 is joining the fun, adding the Throwback Fit Kit and Grunge Revival Kit to these re-releases. The former comes with the first game and the latter with the second, a delightful perk if those are missing from your collection.
So, if you’re busy lounging around a quirky “meme jacuzzi” on The Sims Y2K-themed website EA has set up, it might be time to hop out, dry off, and dive into these re-releases. They’re calling out to every fan eager to relive their Sims nostalgia!
