With the buzz around the PS5 version of Forza Horizon 5, it’s starting to feel like a new door has swung wide open for Xbox games making their way to Sony’s console. Recently, there’s been chatter about Marcus Fenix and his epic battle against the Locust Horde possibly landing on PlayStation consoles within the year. But, the latest whispers suggest this might actually be a collection featuring the first three Gears of War titles, set to launch simultaneously on both the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
There’s quite a bit of excitement building around the idea of a Gears of War collection that’s rumored to feature the franchise’s first trio of games coming to the PS5. Renowned leaker eXtas1s has thrown their hat in the ring, suggesting that while there’s no set announcement date, this collection will be a launch day treat for multiple platforms. Interestingly, they’ve hinted at cross-play capabilities, meaning players could battle it out across PCs, Xboxes, and PlayStations together.
“I can talk about Gears Collection because [the] Gears Collection has cost me a lot to corroborate its existence, but it seems that it exists, and I can confirm that at the moment in which Gears Collection is announced, which I don’t know when it will be, but it will be announced as a multiplatform day one,” eXtas1s shared, thanks to ResetEra’s Rychu translating. They added that these classic remasters will likely support cross-platform play, though a Switch version hasn’t been confirmed. Still, joining the fray from PC, Xbox, or PlayStation will be possible.
This isn’t the first time we’ve heard rumors of Gears of War potentially making its way to PS5. Earlier in the month, Jez Corden from Windows Central mentioned the possibility of Gears of War: Ultimate Edition showing up on Sony’s console by 2025.
Of course, as with any rumor, it’s wise to approach this with a healthy dose of skepticism. Although many insiders seem to back each other up, the unpredictable nature of game development means things can shift rapidly. Until there’s an official announcement, fans can only dream about playing Gears of War on their PlayStation.
