NVIDIA enthusiasts hoping to get their hands on the RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 GPUs from Overclockers UK might have to exercise a lot of patience. It seems we’re looking at a wait stretching into weeks or possibly months.
The roll-out for NVIDIA’s RTX 50 series could arguably be labeled as chaotic—some would even call it a textbook ‘paper launch.’ Many retailers, including Overclockers UK, either received scanty supplies or none at all. The moment the embargo was lifted, the RTX 5090 units disappeared from shelves in minutes, and the RTX 5080 wasn’t far behind, despite marginally better availability.
So, if you’re eyeing these new GPUs, prepare to hold your excitement a little longer. Right now, Overclockers UK has halted pre-orders for both the RTX 5090 and RTX 5080. Even if you’re willing to wait, you wouldn’t be able to secure a spot on their pre-order list. When can we expect them back in stock? Well, Overclockers UK has indicated the RTX 5090 might take anywhere between 3 and 16 weeks to return, while the RTX 5080 may come back within a shorter window of 2 to 6 weeks. In the worst-case scenario, a 16-week wait for the 5090 brings us to around May 2025, by which time the RTX 5070 Ti and RTX 5070 will have already launched in February and March, respectively.
According to a statement from Overclockers UK on January 31st, 2025, they mentioned the incredible demand making it difficult to keep these GPUs in stock:
“Due to incredibly high demand and limited stock, all 50 Series cards sold shortly after launch with some pre-orders taken in restricted quantities.”
Given the immense buzz, perhaps the RTX 5080 might find its way back on the shelves sooner, possibly in the coming month. In global markets, the availability was slightly better but still fell short of demand. Despite not offering as significant improvements as the RTX 5090, the same price point as the RTX 4080 Super made it an attractive purchase for many.
Some enthusiasts even camped outside stores, and retailers resorted to lottery systems just to manage the flurry of buyers itching to splurge on these graphics cards. As for those who managed to secure a pre-order with Overclockers UK without getting a confirmation email, your GPU might be caught in a pre-order backlog. This backlog has led Overclockers UK to pause further pre-orders for the time being.
While other retailers worldwide are also struggling with similar delays, we can’t pin down exactly how long it will take for widescale availability. But one thing’s for sure: the wait isn’t going to be brief.
