Keep an eye on your competitive rank because it’s about to vanish as Marvel Rivals is gearing up for a major midseason update next week. In a developer’s diary released today, NetEase revealed their plan to reset ranks not just at the start of each season but also halfway through it.
The developers explained their reasoning behind this new approach: “After watching closely and evaluating everything, we’ve realized that players’ ranks in the first half of Season 1 are the best reflections of their skills during that period,” they said. “So, we’re implementing an extra rank reset to better fit the upcoming content and changes.”
Come February 21, brace yourself for a drop of four divisions in your rank. Marvel Rivals has three divisions per rank—except for the top tiers: Eternity and One Above All—meaning if you’re sitting at Gold I, you’ll find yourself in Silver II post-reset. With each new season, you can expect your rank to fall by six divisions. However, NetEase assures us they’ll “adjust this” should the competitive environment become chaotic as players find their rightful positions.
Analyzing data from RivalsTracker, it’s clear that many competitive players are clustered between Silver I and Gold III. This reset means a significant number will find themselves regrouping in bronze territory for a bit.
For those pushing to earn the coveted Blood Shield Invisible Woman skin, aiming for Gold III by next Friday is crucial. After the midseason update, a fresh skin reward will replace it, and completing 10 matches becomes a prerequisite to claim it. This change ensures that high-ranking players can’t snag the reward without putting in the gameplay effort.
The upcoming rank reset, paired with the “major balance adjustments” promised by NetEase in the patch, could impact players differently. While many feel that healers are overly powerful at the moment, some just wish for Moon Knight’s ultimate move to function as intended. And who knows what kind of shake-up will occur when characters like the Thing and Human Torch enter the fray in matches.
