AMD has put to rest the swirling rumors about a Radeon RX 9070 XT GPU boasting 32 GB of memory. Such speculation started after a leak on Chiphell suggested a 32 GB version might be launched this year. This potential model was rumored to belong to AMD’s ‘Gaming’ line rather than the PRO series.
At last, clarity arrives from Frank Azor of AMD, who publicly addressed the chatter directly on Techpowerup’s social media, stating definitively there won’t be a 32 GB version:
“No, the 9070 XT card is not coming in 32 GB capacity.” — Frank Azor (@AzorFrank) February 13, 2025
The Radeon RX 9070 XT is slated to come with a still-impressive 16 GB of GDDR6 VRAM. Despite what rumors suggested about a larger memory version intended for AI applications, AMD sees little benefit in expanding to 32 GB for gaming purposes. Historically, AMD hasn’t ventured into 32 GB territory for gaming GPUs, and it’s logical not to equip a high-mid-range card with such capacity, given the lack of gaming performance improvement it would realistically bring. Moreover, it seems the RX 9070 XT is set to be AMD’s flagship card for the RDNA 4 lineup, powered by the Navi 48 GPU.
In comparison, other models like the RX 9070 and those based on Navi 44 will have lesser specs and, correspondingly, lesser performance. Mark your calendars for February 28th, when AMD will officially unveil the RX 9000 series, revealing all the details ranging from specs to pricing, complete with first-party benchmarks.
We’re anticipating the retail launch in early March. It’s around this same time that NVIDIA is expected to roll out their GeForce RTX 5070 GPU. Frank Azor has also mentioned in the past that AMD plans for their 70-class GPUs to go head-to-head with NVIDIA’s own, so it promises to be an intriguing showdown between the RX 9070 XT, RX 9070, and NVIDIA’s RTX 5070 Ti or RX 5070.
