Onward, the tactical military simulation shooter developed by Downpour Interactive, is gearing up for a significant 2.0 update. Owned by Meta, the studio hasn’t rolled out a major update since nearly a year ago, making this one highly anticipated by fans and players alike.
Despite the past year’s updates being on the lighter side, Onward has not been forgotten. The previous major enhancement, known as the ‘Mercenary’ update, arrived in February 2024. It introduced a player-versus-environment (PVE) mode along with several graphical improvements that were well-received by the community.
Looking ahead, Downpour Interactive is preparing to launch the 2.0 update. In a recent blog post, Meta described this as āits biggest update ever,ā promising a plethora of new content. This includes a significant graphical overhaul that revamps weapons and utilities, along with a brand-new Operator system featuring 20 fresh characters and new map content. Meta has assured players that more details about the update will be unveiled “very soon.”
This news comes amid a period of turbulence in the gaming industry, with 2023 marked by significant layoffs at Downpour Interactive. These changes followed the departure of founder and CEO Dante Buckley, who had been with the company since its inception in 2015.
Onward first made its debut on Steam in Early Access back in 2016 and was later released for the original Oculus Quest in 2020. The game is renowned for its realistic squad-based gameplay and dedication to represent real-world armaments accurately.
If you’re looking to delve deeper into Onward, you can find more information on the Horizon Store page for Quest 2 and above, as well as on Steam for PC VR headsets. Generally, the game is priced around $25.
