Virtuix has just revealed an exciting new addition to its Omni One VR treadmill system—a tourism app that will transport you to some of the globe’s most famous spots in a uniquely immersive way.
Launching on March 6th, this app, aptly named TREKS, will be part of Virtuix’s Omni One all-in-one system. It syncs captivating video experiences with your physical steps, guiding you through breathtaking locations like the serene trails of the Grand Canyon, the bustling expanse of New York’s Central Park, and the ancient corridors of Riyadh’s historic Fort Masmak.
With its debut from Virtuix Studios, the company’s in-house development team, Treks will be offered exclusively at the Omni One Game Store for $30.
Initially, the app will allow you to explore four prominent destinations:
1. Grand Canyon: Wander its trails and take in the breathtaking views of this natural marvel.
2. Niagara Falls: Feel the force of this iconic waterfall from both the US and Canadian perspectives.
3. New York City: Bask in the energy of landmarks like the Statue of Liberty, Times Square, Central Park, and the Brooklyn Bridge.
4. Saudi Arabia: Immerse yourself in the rich history at Fort Masmak and the striking beauty of the Al Rajhi Mosque.
Virtuix Studios has promised even more journeys ahead, with plans to release additional locations in the months to come as downloadable content (DLC). This will include more historical sites, renowned landmarks, and stunning natural settings. Interestingly, they claim that just one hour of exploring in Treks can burn around 500 calories.
“With TREKS, we’re breaking the boundary between observation and participation,” said Jan Goetgeluk, CEO of Virtuix. “It’s an innovative way to keep fit while traversing some of the world’s most remarkable spots. The blend of fitness and exploration is something we’re excited to offer through TREKS.”
As for the Omni One system, it’s priced at $3,495 and includes not only the cutting-edge VR treadmill but also a tailor-made Pico 4 Enterprise headset. This setup can run native apps courtesy of its own processor or connect to a VR-ready PC, both wired and wirelessly.
News of this release follows Omni One’s recent expansion to support over 55 titles, with popular games like Arizona Sunshine Remake, Arizona Sunshine 2, and Into The Radius being recent additions.
Furthermore, thanks to its Omni Connect PC Driver, the Omni One system seamlessly integrates with SteamVR games. This driver lets users create custom controls and fine-tune settings for games that were not initially designed for such an immersive movement setup.
In essence, the TREKS app seeks to revolutionize how we can explore our world—without ever leaving the comfort of home.
