Treyarch has pulled back the curtains on the latest Zombie map for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, known as "Shattered Veil," and fans are in for a treat at an earlier date than initially planned.
Originally set for a late March release, Black Ops 6’s Season 3 content drop was pushed to April 3, but Activision surprised players by moving it forward to April 2. Despite this early release for multiplayer and Zombies modes, those eager for Verdansk’s return in Call of Duty: Warzone will still need to wait until April 3.
The new map takes players deeper into the Dark Aether saga, which has been the focal point for the Zombies mode in Black Ops 6. With the Sentinel Artifact in their possession, the crew finds themselves in an eerie mansion nestled in the wooded hills of West Virginia, close to Liberty Falls.
This mansion might ring a bell for veterans, as it appears to be the same one showcased in the original Liberty Falls cinematic. Players will get to experiment with new contraptions like microwave traps to zap zombies and a Dark Aether Field Generator, capable of disintegrating zombies with its dark energy field. Just a heads-up: try not to catch yourself in these deadly setups.
Besides the mansion, season three for Zombies has plenty more up its sleeve. Decorated with a full-size T-Rex skeleton, the new map is just the beginning.
Floating through the mansion’s extensive grounds are new foes such as the Elder Disciple, which not only beefs up nearby zombies but also has the power to spawn additional baddies, morphing them into formidable Doppelghasts or other challenging types.
There’s also the toxic zombie, a new adversary that accompanies Season 3. With their arrival, the mansion’s grounds are blanketed in a shroud of noxious mist, with skeletal, gashed zombies sprinting toward players, bursting into acidic puddles upon defeat.
To tackle these threats, players can enjoy the return of the classic Double Tap perk-a-cola, albeit exclusively through the Der Wunderfizz machine, available on the Shattered Veil and other Zombies maps in Black Ops 6.
The Double Tap boost comes with several enhancements:
-
Major Augments
- Double Jeopardy: Normal zombies with low health might drop instantly when shot.
- Double Impact: Consecutive hits on the same target inflict extra damage.
- Double Standard: Non-critical hits cause double damage with regular bullet guns.
- Minor Augments
- Double Time: Boosts firing rate even more.
- Double or Nothing: Weapons may either double their damage or fail to cause any.
- Double Play: Quick elimination of two foes can return two rounds to your magazine, limited to standard bullet weapons.
Fans can also look forward to wielding two new wonder weapons with various variants. The Ray Gun Mark II now fires in a three-round burst and features versions with SMG-style bullets, incendiary effects, powerful attachments, shotgun-like spreads granting temporary invincibility, and more precise shot patterns capable of area attacks.
Meanwhile, the Wunderwaffe DG-2 delivers electrifying chain-lightning attacks in Season 3, with the added bonus of stunning nearby zombies for even greater damage.
In addition, players can now equip three new Gobblegums, usable across all maps to enhance their Zombie gameplay:
- Tactical Diffusion (Rare): Turns your next Nuke Power-Up explosion into 2,000 Essence for each player instead.
- Support Group (Legendary): This GobbleGum offers up the ARC-XD, Mangler Cannon, Sentry Gun, and Mutant Injection support items.
- Die Pitched (Whimsical): Temporarily gives zombies a comically high-pitched voice for three minutes.
Seasoned players will also be glad to see the return of the Death Machine scorestreak in Zombies, craftable for 1750 salvage points.
For those who are keen to unravel more of the Dark Aether story in Zombies but feel they might need a bit of guidance, the Directed Mode for Shattered Veil will be introduced in the mid-season refresh. This update will also bring a temporary Team Cranked mode for Zombies and a new Frost Blast field upgrade, ensuring that Season 3 remains dynamic and engaging.
Currently, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is up for grabs on Xbox, PlayStation, and PC through platforms like Steam, Battle.net, the Microsoft Store, and the Xbox app. A free Black Ops 6 trial, featuring Zombies content, goes live with the start of Season 2 on April 2 at 9 AM PT across all platforms. But, if patience isn’t your thing, you can dive in right now on PC or Xbox via an Xbox Game Pass subscription.
