As we see the PlayStation 5 becoming the leading console for PlayStation enthusiasts, there’s a natural decline in support for the trusty PS4. This shift is particularly affecting a well-loved MMORPG, which is soon to phase out its previous-generation version. However, there’s a silver lining: players can seamlessly transition to the current-gen version without any extra cost.
### Black Desert Online for PS4: A Farewell
Pearl Abyss has made an official announcement that signals the end of Black Desert Online for both PS4 and Xbox One. Fans of this MMORPG still have a few months to dive into adventures before the game fully migrates to new-gen platforms. The scheduled shutdown for the PS4 and Xbox One versions will happen during maintenance on June 26. Thankfully, upgrading to the latest version comes at no cost, and all account data and previous purchases will make the move with players.
In a statement addressing the transition from PS4 to PS5, Brian Choi, Black Desert Console’s Live Service Manager, reassures players: “You can trust that all your game data will be kept secure. Once you’re set to jump to the PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series versions, every bit of your account information and earned entitlements for Black Desert will be right where you left them. We recognize that this may be a bit of a blow to some of you. Black Desert has consistently seen updates aimed at enhancing the gaming experience for all adventurers.”
Choi goes on to explain, “During our earlier video, we noted that despite our efforts to optimize and refresh content on older consoles, we’ve hit a wall with hardware constraints that hinder the delivery of fresh content smoothly. Therefore, after much thought, we’ve chosen to prioritize the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series versions to offer a more reliable and enhanced service.”
When Black Desert Online made its debut in the US in 2016, it sparked quite the debate among gamers, pulling in a mixed bag of reviews. Metacritic, the review aggregator, reported an average score of 73 based on opinions from 35 critics. It found its way to the PS4 and Xbox One in 2019.
