Top news of the week
Headsets May Dodge US Tariffs
The drama surrounding US tariffs remains dynamic and confusing, especially concerning XR headsets. Many companies are cautiously observing the situation, hoping to see some stability before making any major moves. Interestingly, Pimax and BigScreen have both declared their intention to mitigate the impact of these tariffs on users. BigScreen plans to fully absorb any costs, while Pimax is adding a minor $75–95 regional surcharge for US customers buying the Pimax Super.
The best news is that XR headsets are likely exempt from these tariffs altogether. Recently, the US government announced that most electronic devices would be free from tariffs, possibly due to the hefty 145% tariff on Chinese goods that could have severely impacted companies like Apple. As per sources close to the matter, XR headsets are included in this exemption list, which means popular devices such as Quest won’t see price hikes. However, while this is promising, complete confirmation is essential, and other potential tariffs on electronic chips could still pose challenges.
