Janos Flösser, who once headed the team at IO Interactive, the brains behind the Hitman series, has announced the launch of his new studio, Wombo Games. This new venture is already making waves with their upcoming strategy roguelike game, Raiders of Blackveil, slated to hit Early Access this summer.
Wombo Games started its journey in 2023. Flösser, with an impressive track record, spent nearly a decade with IO Interactive from 1998 to 2008 before transitioning to a chief creative officer role at Square Enix. He held that position until 2016, after which he took the helm as CEO at Crey Games. Alongside these roles, he’s also been deeply involved with Promentum Capital, first as a partner and then as a senior partner.
Speaking with GamesBeat, Flösser shared, “We wanted the studio to be lean and agile, just to see how far we could take it. We secured funding and kicked off in July 2023, so we’re approaching our two-year mark. Surprisingly, we had a playable version of Raiders of Blackveil in just about six weeks. Our investors fell in love with it right away and haven’t stopped playing since. This is the first time I’ve seen investors get this excited about a concept and a team. Over the past two years, we successfully raised funds three times. Our focus now is to craft the perfect game for our target audience.”
