In recent months, mil sim shooters have been popping up like mushrooms after the rain. Among them, Delta Force has made quite the splash, Gray Zone Warfare packs a punch, and then there’s Exfil – an Escape From Tarkov-style FPS that’s slowly but surely carving out a niche for itself. Though it’s flown mostly under the radar since its early access launch, a major new update and an upcoming free-to-play weekend could shine a much-needed spotlight on this promising title.
If you’re a fan of hardcore FPS games that demand tactical precision and inspire a dash of fear, Exfil is right up your alley. The game nails the realistic feel with authentic weapon handling, bullet physics that make you count each shot, and tense, demanding environments. From the start, its aim has been to crack the nut of the extraction shooter subgenre by offering both classic and asymmetrical extraction modes. It’s been working to fill some gaps since its early access debut last December, and today’s update really amps things up a notch.
Now, you have the choice to dive in solo or team up in co-op mode. Plus, AI enemies roam the maps, cranking up the challenge and keeping you on your toes. With the update, Exfil introduces three exciting game modes by adding Seek and Destroy, alongside a fresh LMG class for players who love to unleash heavy firepower.
A new interactive tac map allows for better navigation and strategic planning during gameplay. The team has also fine-tuned the weapon sway and recoil for a better balance between realism and playability. Plus, they’re rolling out a shiny new upgrade to Unreal Engine 5.3, and enhancements to DLSS and FSR for a smoother experience.
To let players experience all these enhancements, Exfil is currently free to play for the weekend. On its Steam page, you’ll find what’s labeled as a demo, but don’t be misled – this is the full game, available for free for a limited time.
This free weekend stint is happening now and wraps up on Monday, March 24. If you find yourself hooked, you’ll be able to snag the game at a 25% discount until Wednesday, March 26.
