One standout feature in Days Gone Remastered is the epic Horde Assault mode, a survival arcade experience like no other. Before we get into the nitty-gritty, make sure you catch a glimpse of the action in the trailer below.
What is Horde Assault mode?
Horde Assault brings a fresh twist with new gameplay designed to push your survival skills to their limits. You’ll need to fend off large herds of freakers and other fearsome foes like Breakers, Reachers, and Rager bears in this ever-evolving and hostile landscape. The longer you last, the harder the challenge becomes, perfectly embodying the series’ motto, “This World Comes For You.” It’s a unique spin on the open-world chaos Days Gone fans have come to love. Gear up and show those freakers who’s in charge.
As you kick off Horde Assault, you’ll drop into Cascade armed with only a sidearm. Your first mission? Battle through freaker-infested zones to reunite with your Drifter bike, vital for navigating the sprawling landscape. Keep an eye out for Supply Boxes dotting the map—they hold powerful weapons critical for boosting your survival chances. With over 20 weapons to discover, including a new flamethrower absent from Story mode, finding these caches could be the difference between life and death. The contents are randomized, refreshing with each new game, adding an unpredictable thrill.
While battling for survival, complete Side Jobs to replenish your resources and earn extra XP. These mini-missions are essential, especially when you find yourself low on ammo and a horde of up to 800 freakers hot on your heels. Survive for 30 minutes, and you’ll face the Ultimate Horde—a relentless wave with no end. We’ll leave the rest for you to explore.
Survive
As you climb the levels, unlock in-mode rewards with exclusive characters, new patches, and unique Injectors to dramatically tweak your gameplay. Days Gone veterans will be familiar with Injectors thanks to the main story, and in Horde Assault, they take on an exciting new role as gameplay modifiers. Across your Legendary Survivor journey, you’ll encounter 24 distinctive Injectors—12 Positive and 12 Negative. Positive Injectors enhance your score but ramp up the difficulty, while Negative Injectors reduce your score but bolster your survival chances.
Let me tease you with a couple of Injectors we’re excited about:
- Exploding Freakers: Upon their demise, freakers explode, offering a crucial advantage to manage the ever-larger hordes.
- Wanted: Begin with maximum heat level. In Horde Assault, the longer you endure, the trickier survival becomes. With this Injector, you’re thrown right into the heat, a true test for the strongest among you.
Throughout your Horde Assault adventure, progress through a Reward path. This path consists of 35 levels, with rewards such as Injectors, character skins, and cosmetic patches. The roster expands with six new characters from Days Gone, including beloved figures like O’Brian and Skizzo. Returning players will recognize patches from the 2019 Challenges, now repurposed for bragging rights. These patches transfer over to the story mode as well. Plus, there are hidden bonuses for meeting targets across regions—a nod to fan requests. Hint: Your bike will get some love.
Horde Assault is endgame content but available right from the start in Days Gone Remastered. While new players should get familiar with combat and mechanics through the story mode first, there’s nothing stopping you from diving headfirst into this unique Days Gone experience. Adding around 10 hours of gameplay, it’s part of a content-rich offering we hope you’ll enjoy.
