Last Thursday, orders for the Bigscreen Beyond 2 surged at an unexpected rate. Remarkably, within just one day, the sales of this new PC VR headset surpassed what its predecessor, the Beyond 1, achieved over a span of six months. It’s quite a feat for Bigscreen as their latest offering garners such significant attention so swiftly.
Right from the get-go, the numbers told an incredible story. Within just 25 minutes, Beyond 2’s sales eclipsed the entire first day’s sales of Beyond 1. And by the end of the first hour, they had doubled that initial launch day’s numbers. By the time ten hours had elapsed, Beyond 2’s orders had exceeded what Beyond 1 managed to sell in its first four months.
Bigscreen’s founder and CEO, Darshan Shankar, took to social media to highlight perhaps the most astonishing statistic yet. In the first 24 hours alone, Beyond 2 managed to sell a staggering ten times more units than Beyond 1 did on its initial launch day two years prior. To put it into perspective, it matched six months’ worth of Beyond 1’s sales within a single day. “That’s exceptional,” Shankar noted.
Interestingly, Shankar attributed this success not to traditional advertising routes. “We didn’t pay influencers to hype our product,” he stated. “We didn’t hire an agency for a flashy video. There was zero ad spend involved.” They did, however, let a handful of early Beyond 2 units—around ten—make their way to select reviewers like Tested, Thrillseeker, MRTV, and VR Flight Sim Guy.
For those who haven’t caught up on the latest update, Beyond 2 comes in two versions: one equipped with eye-tracking called Beyond 2e, priced at $1,219, and another without, priced at $1,019. Although it maintains the dual 1-inch 2,560 × 2,560 micro-OLED displays seen in the first Beyond, significant improvements have been made. The standout enhancements include a broader field-of-view (FOV) and greater clarity, owed to a new pancake lens design. This advancement allows Beyond 2 to offer a 116-degree diagonal FOV, compared to the original’s 102-degree range, and it also boasts an adjustable IPD mechanism, all wrapped in an even lighter 107g design.
As for shipping, initial batches were expected to go out in April (Beyond 2) and May (Beyond 2e). However, if you’re placing new orders, expect them to be dispatched around June.
