Recently, Bossa Games, a gaming studio based in London, had to make the tough call to let go of some of its employees. This decision, detailed by co-CEO and co-founder Henrique Olifiers on LinkedIn, comes as the company gears up for the launch of its much-anticipated game, Lost Skies.
Henrique explained that by trimming down the team now, Bossa can focus its efforts on ensuring Lost Skies makes a successful debut and continues to grow and evolve for its players long-term. Once the game is on solid ground and operational in the live gaming world, Bossa plans to split into smaller, more agile teams tasked with developing innovative game concepts and bringing them to fans quickly.
He mentioned, “We’ve had to make the painful decision to scale back, focusing on the late-state production of Lost Skies and its upcoming launch, ensuring the game is successfully released and evolved for its players for the foreseeable future.”
Henrique continued, “Once Lost Skies is established and enjoying live operations, we’ll reshape into small teams working independently on novel game ideas brought to players as early as possible.”
On a somber note, he acknowledged the challenge of saying goodbye to incredibly talented colleagues who have contributed significantly to Bossa’s journey. “This means saying very difficult goodbyes to extremely talented and treasured colleagues, truly some of the best people in the games industry, who have been part of our journey for a long time. We wish we had found a way of navigating this turmoil without resorting to the decision of scaling back our teams, but unfortunately, we’ve failed this endeavour.”
At the beginning of 2024, Bossa had already reduced its workforce by one-third. This restructuring marks a significant shift as the company looks towards its future projects while building on past successes.
