Who isn’t excited about a new battle pass these days? Especially if you’re diving into the latest Call of Duty Black Ops 6 crossover with Squid Game. The event has just launched today, January 3, and it will run until January 24, adding some unique flair to the game.
This crossover comes with a twist—not just one but two battle passes. You have the regular pass and a premium pass, each loaded with special items to show off your love for Squid Game. But is this double trouble when it comes to battle passes too much, even for the seasoned CoD players who are quite familiar with these add-ons by now? Well, the answer varies depending on who you’re chatting with.
Let’s break it down. As detailed in the official blog post, this event introduces a fresh Red Light, Green Light multiplayer mode along with its zombie counterpart, Dead Light, Green Light. As you navigate through these matches, you’ll advance along the Squid Game Event Pass, which offers two distinct pathways. There’s the standard free pass and a premium one priced at 1,100 COD Points (approximately $9.99/£8.39). The premium version boasts rewards like the “Front Man” operator, while the free pass offers a selection of Squid Game player skins and other collectibles.
According to Activision, while you can unlock items in the Free reward track, the Premium track provides access to even more exclusive prizes. These include the “High Authority” XM4 Assault Rifle Blueprint, blueprints for other weapons, and additional themed items like emotes and skins.
But how are players reacting to these new options? The response seems mixed. Some folks on platforms like Twitter and Reddit have voiced their jokes and concerns, with one user humorously mentioning that we now have “battle passes within battle passes.” Meanwhile, others take a more relaxed view, suggesting that if you’re not interested in the premium track, it’s nothing to lose sleep over.
One user, SuperRSM, highlighted that the premium pass offers value comparable to some of the pricier in-game bundles. They argued that paying 1,100 points and playing the game feels more justified than what’s sometimes available in-store. Had this been packaged as a more expensive $20-30 bundle, perhaps fewer players would raise an eyebrow. It’s all about deciding if it’s worth your investment.
Besides the battle passes, this event also brings new store bundles like the Pink Guards Tracer Pack and The VIPs Tracer Pack, though the prices of these packs haven’t been announced yet.
