Confirmed games for the Switch 2 are still quite scarce. Nintendo has finally shed light on its upcoming console after months of intense speculation and rumors, but there are already a few games confirmed for it.
Nintendo’s announcement on January 16 centered mainly around the hardware, offering just a glimpse at a single game. Nevertheless, some developers had confirmed their Switch 2 projects even before this reveal. It’s likely more titles will be announced soon, especially with a new Nintendo Direct scheduled for April 2.
We’ll keep track of these additions in our list of Switch 2 games. If there’s nothing that piques your interest right now, keep in mind the console will support backward compatibility. It might not be the most exciting use of the console’s enhanced capabilities, but it’s something to keep you entertained while you wait for that exclusive title you’re eagerly anticipating.
Update (Jan. 21): We’ve now added Synth Beasts to the roster of confirmed games.
Switch 2 Games List Confirmed So Far
Though the initial Switch 2 reveal leaned heavily on hardware rather than game announcements, here’s a rundown of every confirmed Switch 2 game at this point.
That sums up all we currently know. Of course, questions remain about whether upcoming games for the existing Switch will also make their way to the Switch 2.
What Other Switch 2 Games Might We Expect?
Nintendo’s history suggests we could see more cross-generation titles. For instance, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess launched on both GameCube and Wii, and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild was released for both the original Switch and Wii U. Even if Zelda doesn’t make the leap this time, titles like Pokémon Legends: Z-A and Metroid Prime 4 could boost the Switch 2’s initial library, especially if they fully harness the system’s upgraded hardware.
All this speculation remains unconfirmed for now. We’ll likely glean more insights during the Switch 2 Nintendo Direct in April. Whether or not these games remain exclusive to the Switch, backward compatibility will allow you to enjoy them on the new console. This is a great option if you’re thinking about trading in your original Switch and don’t want to miss out on the newest Pokémon and Metroid journeys.
