Devolver Digital is up to its usual antics again with the release of the Devolver Delayed Awards. This unique pre-recorded event humorously honors a handful of games that are being pushed back to 2025.
In typical Devolver style, the show was packed with their signature sarcasm, as they playfully applauded their developers for having the “courage and determination” to postpone their games into the next fiscal year. Let’s take a look at the lucky winners and some of the (imaginary) nominees:
First up, we have the Best Inadvertent Tripping Simulator. Then, there’s the Best Late-Stage Capitalism Roguelite. And finally, the award for Best Glass Demon in a Leading Role.
In addition to these tongue-in-cheek categories featuring fictional games (honestly, who wouldn’t want to play Windshield Repair Simulator?), the ceremony also featured updates from the developers of the real delayed titles, all now set for a 2025 release. Meanwhile, Skate Story’s Sam Eng revealed he had broken his arm, so cut them some slack if you’ve been eagerly waiting for it.
Devolver pulled a similar stunt in 2023, poking fun at the traditional Nintendo Direct format. Last year’s Devolver Delayed Showcase cheerfully announced delays for several games, including titles like The Plucky Squire, Stick It to the Stickman, Anger Foot, Pepper Grinder, and Skate Story.
While it might be frustrating from a business standpoint to handle such delays, it’s refreshing to see Devolver giving developers the breathing room to bring their ideas to life, rather than rushing out incomplete games to make a quick profit.
According to Devolver Digital’s official website, we’re still awaiting official launch dates for other intriguing titles like Possessor(s), Tenjutsu, Human Fall Flat 2, and Forestrike.
