If you’re skeptical about Sony working on a new PlayStation handheld, a fresh report from a rather unexpected source might just sway your opinion. Digital Foundry, typically focused on tech coverage and not known for leaking information, has now chimed in, adding weight to previous reports. It turns out they’ve heard about Sony’s upcoming portable, backing up the buzz that’s been circulating.
### PlayStation Handheld Development Seems to Be Advancing
John Linneman from Digital Foundry disclosed that they’ve been aware of plans for this new PlayStation portable for several months. This means their insight predates the recent Bloomberg leak, giving them a bit of a head start on the news. Initially, it was Tom Henderson, a well-known leaker, who hinted at the handheld’s existence, but whispers about it actually surfaced as far back as February 2024.
Linneman suggests that development might be progressing faster than initially anticipated from those early leaks. “Typically, we’re not in the business of leaking information, but it’s intriguing that this topic is finally gaining traction in the mainstream, as it validates what we had heard informally regarding its existence,” Linneman remarked (via Reddit). He also added, “I believe there are prototype models out there.”
While it remains uncertain whether this will fully materialize, many agree that handheld devices will play a crucial role in the offerings of next-generation consoles.
