Nintendo Switch Online subscribers have another nostalgic treat as Donkey Kong Land III joins the Game Boy library, marking three weeks of continuous game additions and four beloved simians.
Originally launched in 1997, Donkey Kong Land III is the third installment of a unique Game Boy adaptation that mirrors the celebrated Donkey Kong Country series. This time around, players will join Dixie and Kiddy Kong on a thrilling adventure to discover the “Lost World” before K. Rool, Donkey Kong, or Diddy Kong beat them to it.
Interestingly, Donkey Kong Land III offers a distinct twist by not having Donkey Kong himself as a playable character or even as someone who needs rescuing. This sets it apart from previous titles and deviates more significantly from the SNES original, Country 3.
While Western players will enjoy the Game Boy version, those using the Japanese version of the app are treated to a special regional exclusive—the 2000 Game Boy Color re-release. Whether for nostalgic enjoyment or new experiences, this addition adds variety and excitement to the expanding library.
