Imagine this: you’re about to embark on a journey you probably never thought possible. From your current location, you’re invited to tour a Hollywood movie set. Picture this: all the scenery, daring stunts, and a team of actors right at your fingertips, with none other than director Eli Roth guiding you the entire way.
io9 is thrilled to share a mind-blowing video shot on the filming location of the highly anticipated video game adaptation, Borderlands. Collaborating with Light Sail VR, Roth captured stunning moments featuring stars like Cate Blanchett, Kevin Hart, and Ariana Greenblatt. While this footage is optimized for a VR experience, trust me—it looks incredible in 2D as well.
In his words, Roth shared, “I’ve been a VR enthusiast for years and have been experimenting with a GoPro 360 since 2018. The pandemic made set visits tricky, so I wanted fans to really feel the essence of being on location as we recreated the spectacular world of Borderlands. You’ll get a behind-the-scenes look at the impressive sets our art department constructed in Budapest, watch the actors rehearse intense action scenes, and witness Cate Blanchett and Ariana Greenblatt soaring over a hundred feet above ground, leaping from a truck bed. Thanks to my buddies at Light Sail VR, we’ve crafted an experience that places you smack dab in the action. This gives you a genuine sense of the madness we lived through while filming in the wild universe of Borderlands.”
And here’s your exclusive peek.
In Borderlands, Cate Blanchett plays a legendary bounty hunter returning to her native planet, Pandora, searching for the evil Atlas’s (Edgar Ramírez) missing daughter. Along her journey, she gathers an eclectic team for a quest to unravel one of Pandora’s biggest secrets. You’ll see Kevin Hart, Jack Black, Ariana Greenblatt, Florian Munteanu, Gina Gershon, and Jamie Lee Curtis join forces on this epic adventure. Mark your calendars for its release on August 9.
