The indie XR studio, The Binary Mill, has exciting news for VR enthusiasts: their space-themed mining adventure, “Into Black,” is preparing to venture beyond its Quest exclusivity and make its debut on PSVR 2 in 2024. Imagine combining the thrill of Deep Rock Galactic with a fresh interstellar twist—this is what “Into Black” promises to deliver.
Having first seen the light of day on the Quest platform back in October, this game is designed for both solo adventurers and teams of up to four. Players dive into a captivating journey that revolves around scavenging for resources, upgrading tools, and ensuring their trusty spacecraft is in top shape for another mission. With more than 20 levels set across a variety of distinct biomes, you’ll encounter and combat a wide array of adversaries as you work tirelessly to gather the parts needed to escape the perilous alien environment.
But there’s more to the PSVR 2 version than just the campaign. It also introduces the intense ‘Singularity’ mode, a PvPvE challenge where up to 11 players can compete and strategize against each other online. The Binary Mill teases, “Form alliances, though they may be fleeting, as you navigate a constantly shrinking labyrinth. Amass the treasures you find, but bear in mind—overconfidence and greed might just be your downfall.”
In an effort to make the most of the PSVR 2’s capabilities, “Into Black” is undergoing a considerable transformation. Expect to see remastered environments and stunning enhancements in lighting, complete with dynamic illumination and shadows. The game will also support HDR and eye-tracked foveated rendering. To further enrich the experience, it takes advantage of the advanced haptics provided by PS Sense’s adaptive triggers and the PSVR 2’s headset rumble feature.
For those wondering about cross-play with Quest users, the studio has clarified that the feature won’t be available at launch, though it’s a highly anticipated aspect many hope to see in the future.
As we await the official trailer showcasing all these PSVR 2 enhancements, the studio has graciously shared a few images and GIFs to give players a glimpse of what’s in store.
While the exact release date remains a mystery, The Binary Mill assures us that it’s on the horizon. In the meantime, eager fans can add “Into Black” to their wishlist on the PlayStation Store for PSVR 2.
