Jim Carrey recently stepped back into the shoes of the eccentric villain Dr. Robotnik for Sonic 3, and he’s hinted that he might be willing to return for potential future installments, like a Sonic 4, as long as the concept intrigues him.
Carrey, who had all but retired before taking up the role in Sonic 3, jokingly mentioned on the red carpet that he came back because, “I’ve bought a lot of stuff and need the money, frankly.” He previously kidded that it would take a script written in “gold ink” to lure him back to acting, suggesting it would have to be significant enough for the audience.
In a chat with the Japanese YouTube channel Cinema Today, Carrey expressed his openness to participating in more Sonic films. “I’m definitely open,” he said. “If they come to me with an idea that sounds fun, I’ll consider it. I’m not tied to anything unless it’s something that really interests me.” He added, “I love this crew, I love the fans, and there’s a great energy around these movies. The fans are also quick with suggestions, making it a collaborative effort.”
During the video, Carrey shared that he “power-rests between projects,” accompanied by a playful expression. While it doesn’t quite reach the iconic level of his Grinch face, it’s an amusing moment, complete with a quirky sound. I’d give it an 8 out of 10 for effort.
At least focusing on these light-hearted moments means you can skip revisiting Carrey’s past comments on vaccines or his NFT endeavors on Wikipedia.
In other Sonic the Hedgehog 3 updates, writers Pat Casey and Josh Miller recently chatted about other video games they’d potentially like to bring to the big screen someday.
