February 2025 is shaping up to be quite the month, with not many major video game launches expected (although one anticipated release has been pushed back). Nonetheless, there’s something exciting on the horizon that gamers might want to check out. Enter “Keep Driving,” an intriguing driving RPG where you engage in turn-based battles and gather various items along the way.
If you’re not yet acquainted with this delightfully oddball game, let me fill you in. I had the opportunity to play its demo during Steam’s Next Fest last year, where I met my untimely demise courtesy of a puddle—just once, thankfully. The premise? You’re embarking on a road trip to a friend’s place, but it’s not all smooth sailing. Both you and your car must navigate through the usual trials of road travel, as well as contend with human necessities like food and sleep along your journey.
The complete version of “Keep Driving” is scheduled to launch on February 6, exclusively on PC via Steam, as revealed by Swedish developer YCJY Games through a charming tweet.
There’s a new trailer out as well, featuring scenes of turn-based car combat against tractors, sheep, and those ever-pesky potholes. The trailer also teases a couple of additional vehicles where you’ll stash everything essential for you, your car, and the hitchhikers you might pick up. Though I was quite fond of the demo’s not-quite-Volvo, I must admit the prospect of cruising around in a pickup truck appeals to the Johnny Cash fan in me.
Right now, “Keep Driving” will only be available on PC. However, one of the developers hinted in a reply that the game might make its way to consoles eventually, albeit uncertain about which ones—other than the Nintendo Switch. I’m crossing my fingers for a PS2 port, so I can seamlessly switch between this and “Need For Speed: Underground”.
For now, let’s hope the full release of “Keep Driving” enhances the already awesome vibes I enjoyed from my first playthrough.
