Back in July, there was quite the buzz surrounding The First Descendant. Its debut was nothing short of impressive, with more than 264,000 players diving in during the first month alone. However, interest has taken a nosedive since then, as fewer players continue to log on. Despite this waning enthusiasm, Nexon has diligently kept the game up to date across its platforms—at least until June 19.
Say Goodbye to PS4 Support This June
In a recent livestream, as highlighted on ResetEra, Nexon revealed plans to cease support for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of The First Descendant on June 19, just before the game’s first birthday. The developers cited the expanding scope of the game as the reason for this decision, noting the increasing challenges in maintaining the game on these last-generation consoles.
For those playing on the PS4, this means that come June, The First Descendant will be unplayable on that platform and will be removed from the PlayStation Store. The bright side? If you’re thinking of making the jump to a PS5 before the cutoff, your progress will smoothly transition to the newer console, allowing you to pick up right where you left off.
As a free-to-play third-person looter shooter, The First Descendant had a rocky start, drawing mixed reviews at launch. On Metacritic, it has an average score of 57 based on 21 critic reviews. Steam users have echoed this sentiment, labeling their experiences as “Mixed.” Gamers have enjoyed the initial phases of the game but have been vocal about their discontent with its endgame offerings.
Another storm The First Descendant weathered involved accusations of plagiarizing art from Bungie’s Destiny. Nexon responded by promising to ensure any similarities were addressed, aiming to emphasize the distinctive identity of their game.
