After what feels like an eternity of rumors and anticipation, Nintendo has finally pulled back the curtain on the follow-up to the Switch, confirming it will indeed be called the Switch 2.
In a recently released update video, fans got their first glimpse of this next-generation system. It boasts a larger display than even the Switch OLED and features bigger Joy-Con controllers, each equipped with a small clip for easy attachment when playing in handheld mode. The console also has a redesigned kickstand that lets it rest almost flat, perfect for when you’re setting it up for tabletop gaming. Excitingly, the Switch 2 remains compatible with both physical game cards from the original Switch and digital titles, with an expected release slated for some time in 2025.
While the update didn’t list any specific games, sharp-eyed viewers might have spotted what’s likely a brand-new Mario Kart track. For those eager to learn more, Nintendo has scheduled a dedicated Switch 2 Nintendo Direct presentation for April 2, 2025. Following this, there will be hands-on events around the globe where fans can get up close with the new console. Here’s where you can check it out:
In North America, events will take place in New York from April 4-6, Los Angeles from April 11-13, and both Dallas and Toronto will host events from April 25-27.
Europe won’t be left out, with events scheduled in Paris from April 4-6, London from April 11-13, followed by gatherings in Milan, Berlin from April 25-27, and finally, Madrid and Amsterdam from May 9-11.
It’s a thrilling time to be a Nintendo fan, and with these events lined up, it’s only a matter of time before we dive into the new Mario Kart and other exciting titles on the horizon.
