Bethesda Game Studios recently revealed some impressive news: The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered has hit a remarkable 4 million players. Sharing their excitement on Bluesky, the team expressed gratitude, saying, “We are so grateful to the over 4 million of you that have already ventured into Cyrodiil with Oblivion Remastered. Thank you!”
After nearly two years of anticipation fueled by leaks and rumors, the game was officially announced on Tuesday. In a surprise move, it became instantly available for purchase through a “shadow drop,” allowing eager fans to dive right in on the same day.
Collaborating with Virtuos, while still under the wing of Bethesda, this remastered version dazzles with new visuals powered by Unreal Engine 5, alongside updated voice recordings. The core Gamebryo engine remains much like the original 2006 version, albeit with some tweaks.
It’s important to note that 4 million players doesn’t equate to 4 million copies sold. Xbox first-party games, including this one, arrive on Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass at launch. This means subscribers can test-drive the game without additional cost.
Nonetheless, this milestone is significant, and it will be fascinating to see how it grows. For instance, another Bethesda-published title, MachineGames’ “Indiana Jones and the Great Circle,” also reached 4 million players following its December 2024 release on Xbox and PC.
Currently, most players are thoroughly enjoying Oblivion Remastered, though PC Game Pass users are awaiting a fix after an update disrupted DLSS upscaling.
Available on Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC (via Steam and the Xbox app), and PlayStation 5, The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered is ready for adventurers. For more insights, check out my guide on the different editions available.
