From Software recently revealed that Elden Ring has surpassed 30 million copies sold globally since its launch in 2022. This achievement places it alongside legendary games like Borderlands 2, Call of Duty: Black Ops, and Diablo 3, marking it as one of the best-selling titles of all time.
Elden Ring hit the shelves on February 25, 2022, and later expanded with the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC on June 21. Since its debut, 30 million gamers have ventured into The Lands Between on both PC and console. It’s an impressive feat, especially considering the game’s notorious difficulty. Players knew they were in for a challenge and embraced it regardless!
The game has enjoyed significant success both commercially and critically. Both the initial release and its DLC were well-received, and the shift from the Dark Souls series to an open-world format was a hit among fans and critics alike. While it retained the hardcore difficulty of Dark Souls, Elden Ring did see some nerfs and balance tweaks throughout its journey to ease the challenge just a bit.
With those 30 million copies sold, From Software has ample room to explore new directions. They clearly recognize Elden Ring’s status as a beloved title. The upcoming spin-off, Elden Ring Nightreign, will feature cooperative gameplay, utilizing much of Elden Ring’s universe with a fresh twist. It’s not far-fetched to anticipate that the company will continue to tap into this successful genre.
