Earlier today, FuturLab dropped some news regarding the future of PowerWash Simulator’s VR support on Quest, and it’s not the best. Kirsty Rigden, the CEO at FuturLab, explained that the VR development is coming to a halt mainly because of financial issues and the importance of job security for their team.
In a candid statement, Rigden shared the tough choice they faced. Despite the team’s passion for VR, it became clear that the platform wasn’t financially viable—essentially costing more to maintain than it was bringing in. Because of this, the dedicated VR team has been reassigned to new projects within the company, concentrating on the business’s broader needs rather than focusing on a platform that didn’t financially add up.
Rigden didn’t completely shut the door on future VR development, hinting that they might revisit it down the line. However, right now, the priority is ensuring job stability, which ultimately directed their team shift.
For those looking for more insight, the full statement from Rigden gives a little more context:
“I’m really sorry to announce that we’re halting PowerWash Simulator VR support. We love VR and hope to back it again one day, but right now, it’s not feasible for us. We had to decide between continuing with a platform that’s costing us or reassigning our brilliant VR team to other open roles that need filling. As much as I wish we could keep supporting this game across all platforms, securing jobs is my top priority. I think if you were in my shoes, you’d understand why we chose this path.”
Despite this setback, PowerWash Simulator isn’t fading away. Flat-screen versions are still getting new content, with fun updates like the Shrek DLC and an exciting Wallace & Gromit Pack on the horizon. VR support has been on pause since last June, though, following the release of Alice’s Adventures Special Pack. Before that, VR players enjoyed various updates, including Muckingham Files 1 & 2 and collaborations with big names like SpongeBob SquarePants and Back to the Future.
The good news for VR fans is that even without new updates, PowerWash Simulator VR and its current DLC lineup will still be accessible on the Meta Quest platform. FuturLab has no intentions of taking them down anytime soon.
