We’re diving into a review for Mythwrecked: Ambrosia Island, and I had the chance to chat with Alex Kanaris-Sotiriou, co-founder of Polygon Treehouse. It’s an exciting time, so let’s uncover some details!
PS4Blog: Good morning! It’s great to have you back with us. How’s everything going on your side?
Alex Kanaris-Sotiriou: Thank you! It’s been a whirlwind since we launched our last indie game, Röki. This time has been fascinating, as Mythwrecked takes a fresh perspective on mythology. Instead of the Scandinavian folklore we delved into before, this game imagines what the Greek gods might be like if they existed in today’s world.
PS4Blog: Mythwrecked: Ambrosia Island is coming to Nintendo Switch on December 5. What should players expect from this new game?
Alex: We like to call Mythwrecked: Ambrosia Island an ‘explore-o-story’ game. You step into the shoes of a character named Alex, a backpacker in need of a break from city life. However, things take a turn when a strange storm leaves you stranded on an ancient, forgotten island. Your journey will involve making friends with the gods of Greek mythology, helping them regain their memories, and ultimately endeavoring to find a way home.
PS4Blog: When did you begin working on this game and how has it evolved from your initial idea to the finished product we’re about to see?
Alex: The project kicked off about three years ago. Back then, the core idea was already pretty strong—features like radar treasure hunting and memory flashbacks were key aspects from the start and haven’t really changed. What did see some evolution is the ‘Story Sandbox’—the dynamic interactions with the gods in the game. We had several versions before landing on one that I’m really proud of. It lets players feel like they’re living through a story as it unfolds around them.
PS4Blog: Röki was released physically, so I’m curious if Mythwrecked: Ambrosia Island will also have a physical edition.
Alex: I’m a huge fan of physical copies, and it was thrilling to have one for my first indie title. As for Mythwrecked, there’s nothing to announce on that front right now, but it’s definitely something I’d love to see happen in the future.
PS4Blog: As we wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
Alex: Just a huge thank you for your interest! If you’re a fan of cozy games, mythology, adventure, or a bit of mystery, we’d love for you to check out Mythwrecked: Ambrosia Island. We’re hoping it’ll be an unforgettable indie gaming experience!
