During this holiday season, PSVR 2’s sales numbers on Amazon US soared far beyond expectations, achieving nearly five times the sales volume compared to last year. This impressive feat was driven by a major price cut during their Black Friday and holiday promotion.
With a massive 42% discount applied to the Horizon bundle, the headset’s price dropped from $550 to an inviting $350. This reduction led to an expected surge in sales, but the actual figures surprised even the most optimistic forecasts. Remarkably, PSVR 2’s sales reached close to five times its previous peak on Amazon US during the 2024 holiday period, when compared to the same time in 2023.
Admittedly, last year’s holiday season didn’t offer any significant deals for the headset. Generally, if you slice a product’s price in half, you’d predict sales to climb by about 50% or so. However, in this instance, PSVR 2 exhibited a unique dynamic between its pricing strategy and the resulting sales figures, exceeding normal expectations.
The sale kicked off before Black Friday in 2024 and stretched well into the new year. Such an extended promotion could suggest that Sony is clearing inventory, possibly in anticipation of a new SKU, whether it’s a fresh bundle or a cost-effective redesign. While there has been speculation about Sony potentially losing confidence in the headset and possibly preparing for a clearance sale before discontinuation, it’s more probable they’re simply gearing up for continued support. Even though Sony might not heavily promote the headset going forward, it’s likely they’ll keep it available at least until the next generation of consoles rolls out.
