Strange World truly stands as one of Disney’s hidden gems—seriously. This adventurous flick is a delightful blend of action and emotion, expertly weaving in that signature Disney theme of generational conflict. It trails the Clade family across three generations, each one holding a different vision of their family legacy. As the grandfather, father, and son come face to face with their own ideals, the movie dazzles with some of the most breathtaking animation Disney has ever brought to the big screen—though, sadly, not enough.
Borrowing a page from classic adventure tales like Indiana Jones, Strange World also explores environmental themes set against a backdrop of a vividly imaginative alien landscape. This intriguing world is teeming with spectacular vistas, engaging characters—both human and fantastical—and curious creatures living up to the promise of the film’s title. Despite the bizarre and uncharted world, the core conflicts are fundamentally human. The Clade family is on a journey to better understand one another, and it takes venturing into those perilous unknown places to realize what’s been staring them in the face all along.
Unfortunately, Disney didn’t give this cinematic jewel the marketing push it deserved, leading to one of the biggest flops at the box office. However, if you’re subscribed to Disney+, you can stream it right now, and trust me—it’s amazing. This movie absolutely deserved more love and attention than it got.
