For its third acquisition of the year, indie publisher Reforged Studios has set its sights on Yellow Lab Games. While details on the financial aspect of the deal remain undisclosed, it’s confirmed that this South African developer will continue to operate independently, according to GI.biz. Players can look forward to Yellow Lab’s roguelite RPG, Metavoidal, slated for a Steam release in the first quarter of 2025.
This acquisition follows Reforged’s purchase of Ground Shatter and Extra Mile Studios back in August, showcasing a pattern of strategic expansion.
Reflecting on this recent addition, Reforged’s CEO and founder, Peter Van Der Watt, shared his thoughts: “Growing up in South Africa, I’ve always been aware of the incredible game development talent that flourishes here,” he said. “Yellow Lab Games caught my attention a while ago, especially after witnessing the buzz around Metavoidal, their debut in the PC and console arena.”
Van Der Watt has been a steadfast supporter of South African game development, a passion dating back to his move to Scotland in 2011 to start his first game studio. “It’s gratifying to see the entire Reforged board share my enthusiasm for this region’s potential. When the chance came to welcome David Hecker and his team into our fold, there was no doubt about our decision. We’re thrilled to integrate South Africa’s finest gaming talent into the Reforged family, and we believe this is just the beginning of greater investments into Africa’s growing gaming industry,” he added enthusiastically.
