Warner Bros, a major player in the entertainment industry, has reportedly decided to pull the plug on an expansion for Hogwarts Legacy.
According to a report from Bloomberg, this expansion was supposed to coincide with the launch of a Definitive Edition of the Harry Potter action RPG. The plan was to introduce new storylines within this expanded edition.
However, Warner Bros felt that the expansion didn’t offer enough content to justify the pricing they had in mind. Initially, the expansion was under the creative guidance of Avalanche Software, the original developers, along with collaboration from Rocksteady. Interestingly, Avalanche is also working on a sequel to the Harry Potter game.
Rocksteady, on its part, is facing its own challenges following the news of layoffs, which came in the wake of their announcement to stop supporting the 2024 release, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League.
Last year, Warner Bros admitted that its gaming division wasn’t performing up to expectations. In a significant financial hit, they had to write down $200 million in costs related to Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. Additionally, the company recently shut down three studios, including Monolith, and it’s noteworthy that long-serving executive David Haddad also announced his exit.
