As the launch of Avowed draws closer, speculation about a potential PlayStation 5 release is gaining momentum. Obsidian Entertainment, known for their engaging role-playing games, is poised to release this new fantasy RPG set in the Pillars of Eternity universe on February 18. Like many of Xbox’s major releases, it will be available on Xbox Game Pass from day one.
In recent months, there’s been a lot of chatter about Xbox’s first-party titles making the leap to PlayStation 5, hinting at a possible strategic shift. Several Xbox heavyweights are confirmed to debut on PS5 in the near future. Notably, the celebrated arcade racer, Forza Horizon 5, which was a standout exclusive for the Xbox Series X and S, is set to hit the PS5 this spring. Meanwhile, PlayStation users await the port of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, and Obsidian’s much-anticipated The Outer Worlds 2, announced for a day-one PS5 release at The Game Awards in December. Starfield is also rumored to feature in next week’s Sony State of Play with whispers of a PS5 version.
Such developments have stirred curiosity around Xbox’s cherished franchises like Halo and Gears of War, along with new titles such as Avowed. Currently slated for release on Xbox and PC, Avowed received added attention following a recent MinnMax Rapid-Fire interview. Ben Hanson, the host, playfully suggested to the game’s director Carrie Patel that a PS5 version of Avowed could be in the cards. Surprised, Patel gave a slight nod before quickly changing to a casual shrug, igniting further speculation.
While Patel’s response is far from an official confirmation of Avowed’s entry onto PlayStation, the trend of Xbox titles transitioning to PS5 makes such a development entirely plausible. It seems logical for Avowed to remain an Xbox exclusive given The Outer Worlds 2’s existing multiplatform lineage. Nonetheless, speculation about a PS5 version is likely to linger post-launch.
For now, Xbox and PC gamers can look forward to diving into this fantasy adventure on February 18. A standout in 2025’s RPG lineup alongside titles like Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, Avowed’s potential appearance on PlayStation remains an enticing possibility that fans will be eager to see unfold in the coming months.
