The talented team working on Skyblivion, the ambitious mod project that’s reimagining The Elder Scrolls IV within Skyrim’s engine, has achieved a significant milestone. They’ve successfully completed the landscaping for every region in their recreation of Cyrodiil.
Although there’s still work to be done before the mod meets its targeted release in 2025, this accomplishment marks an exciting step forward in their journey.
“With the Niben Basin and Valley now finished, the entire landscape of Cyrodiil has undergone its first pass,” the Skyblivion team noted in a tweet, adding, “Next up: Enhancing previous areas of the map to meet higher standards.” This follows last month’s update where modders announced they were near completion on the world map, with only the Nibenay region along Cyrodiil’s eastern border left to wrap up. Well, that’s another box ticked.
From what we’ve gathered, apart from refining these regions further, there’s likely still some work left on the navmeshing. This is crucial to ensure NPCs don’t get hopelessly entangled in landscape geometry. We all know how amusingly frustrating it can be when they get snagged on a tree stump!
Moreover, last month’s update also highlighted that the team is immersed in designing interiors. They’re focusing on quest locations, which demand more detailed planning and creativity than typical interior spaces. At that time, six quests also awaited development.
Skyblivion’s creators are on the lookout for new volunteers with specific skills to join their mission. If this sounds like something you’re interested in, consider contributing to this impressive effort.
