Lately, there’s been a lot of chatter about the epic mayhem that is Space Marine 2. However, Warhammer 40k Darktide continues to hold its own charm. As much as I revel in the exhilarating clashes with Tyrannids, wreaking havoc on Nurgle’s creatures sounds just as irresistible. Darktide may have taken some time to truly shine, but if you’re curious about returning to Tertium, now’s a fantastic moment to jump back in. The latest DLC, Nightmares and Visions, has arrived, bringing with it the thrilling Mortis Trials mode that gives off serious Call of Duty Zombies vibes, along with some eagerly anticipated tweaks to Havoc.
Let’s dive into the new Mortis Trials mode first. Conceived by the game’s clever Psyker, Sefoni, you’re thrown into a relentless battle against waves of nightmares in a system that feels both round-based and roguelike. Once you hit level 13, prepare yourself to brave 12 increasingly challenging waves, where every third wave throws an additional task your way. The nods to Call of Duty’s famous Zombies mode are clear. However, there’s added depth here thanks to the freedom of choice with Indulgences that keep you returning for more.
As each round kicks off, you’ll choose from these Indulgence power-ups, which dictate the direction of your gameplay. The Pyrokinetic Indulgence turns up the heat with fire skills, the Voltaic favors electric damage, and Fulminator merges both for an explosive mix. Then there’s Death Dealer, enhancing up-close brawls and ranged attacks, and lastly, Colossus, which boosts your endurance. These Indulgences transform the way you approach Mortis Trials, rewarding you for running through each one to make the most of their unique advantages.
While the spotlight is on the new mode, Darktide hasn’t forgotten about its tried-and-true Havoc mode. For the die-hard fans that love this endgame thrill, it’s expanding with Campaigns. According to the developers at Fatshark, this rotation system refreshes mission pools and adds mutators to keep the Havoc challenges enticing. An overhaul in progression aims to make the experience even more satisfying.
In other updates, the Ogryn class has received a comprehensive rework of its talent tree, offering more versatility. No longer are you tied down to just heavy attacks; now you can adapt to light attacks or morph the Ogryn into a formidable tank with the new talent options available.
The Warhammer 40k Darktide Nightmares and Visions update has officially dropped, inviting all players to dive in for free.
And after you’ve explored every corner of this update, consider diving into some other stellar Warhammer 40k adventures. There’s a treasure trove of excellent co-op games waiting for you to uncover.
