David Haddad, who has been at the helm of Warner Bros. Games, is stepping down after overseeing the rocky rollout of “Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League.” Launched in 2024, this game struggled to capture a loyal fan base and received criticism, particularly for its gameplay mechanics and live service components.
Over the last year, WB Games has found itself on thin ice with fans, thanks to a string of releases that didn’t quite hit the mark. Besides “Suicide Squad,” another title that disappointed was “MultiVersus,” a free-to-play fighting game criticized for its monetization strategies and lack of offline gameplay. Although “Hogwarts Legacy” was a huge hit in late 2023, “Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions,” which debuted in September 2024, missed the mark with fans who were unimpressed by its graphics and repetitive nature.
Variety reports that David Haddad will be leaving WB Games after a 12-year tenure as president. Reflecting on his time, Haddad stated, “I am incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved at Warner Bros. Games. It’s been a joy to work on and evolve our iconic gaming franchises, and I look forward to cheering on this talented team.” He will stay on for three more months while his successor is chosen. In a recent financial meeting, Warner Bros. Discovery’s CEO, David Zaslav, acknowledged that WB Games has been “substantially underperforming.” The focus moving forward will be on a sequel to “Hogwarts Legacy” and new DC titles.
Back in December 2024, it was announced that January 2025 would see the last piece of new content for “Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League,” signaling the end of the game’s live service. Fans were taken aback by the game’s rocky start since it came from Rocksteady, the studio famed for the Batman: Arkham series. Unfortunately, the game’s poor reception led to layoffs at Rocksteady in September 2024. Warner Bros. disclosed a staggering $200 million loss on the game and reported a 41% drop in revenue, blaming the lackluster performance of “Suicide Squad.”
As for WB Games’ future, it remains a bit hazy. However, an upcoming Hogwarts Legacy sequel is expected to bolster the company’s finances and player confidence. There’s also buzz around a forthcoming Wonder Woman game, but reports suggest we won’t see it until 2026, as its development was announced before it even began.
In “Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League,” players will embark on a thrilling adventure as the Suicide Squad, tasked with taking down the world’s greatest heroes, The Justice League. Rocksteady Studios brings their expertise in crafting action-packed narratives by placing these infamous villains in an expansive, open-world Metropolis. Against the backdrop of destruction prompted by an alien force, the squad must tread carefully, as explosive devices implanted in their heads could spell their doom at any moment. Each character offers unique abilities, making exploration and combat within Metropolis both diverse and exhilarating. Designed for action and adventure enthusiasts, this genre-defying, third-person shooter aims to break new ground in storytelling and gameplay.
