WoW Classic Season of Discovery Explains Scourge Invasions’ Fate in Phase 8

Despite some initial confusion, players can rest assured that these world events aren’t going anywhere for the new update, even after the much-anticipated drop on April 8.

In Phase 7, Scourge Invasions brought excitement by letting players clash with the undead and cultists in key locations, offering rare gear and handy items. The uncertainty arose over whether this thrilling activity would undergo changes or conclude completely post-Kel’thuzad’s defeat in Naxxramas, as was seen with Phase 3’s Nightmare Incursions.

Thankfully, Josh “Aggrend” Greenfield, World of Warcraft Classic’s senior game producer, cleared things up on Bluesky. Scourge Invasions will continue, allowing players to gather coveted Necrotic Runes, Sanctified armor, and other distinct event rewards for the foreseeable future.

The mix-up largely stemmed from the Phase 8 Public Test Realm builds, which lacked the Scourge Invasions, misleading fans to suspect the event’s removal. Greenfield explained that test realms often feature configurations that differ from live servers, inadvertently omitting events like these without intending to remove them from the live game once Phase 8 launches.

All in all, keeping Scourge Invasions is a positive move. This event has carved its place in Season of Discovery, delivering new and unseen challenges and rewards. With the possibility that Phase 8 could wrap up the season, losing this popular event would be disappointing during such an epic update.

Exciting new content is just around the corner, with outdoor activities, profession content in New Avalon, and Scarlet Enclave quests rolling out on April 8 after a maintenance period. Then, on April 10 at 1 PM PDT, players can dive into the Scarlet Enclave Raid and embark on the Legendary weapon questline.
